Innovative Methods of Waste Water Management and Conservation


Department of Zoology, GCWUF organized a seminar on ???Innovative Methods of Waste Water Management and Conservation??? on 24th Oct 2023 in Jinnah Auditorium under the kind patronage of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Zill-i-Huma Nazli. Dr. Tamseela Mumtaz, in charge Department of Zoology, Dr. Sumaira Aslam, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Safina Kousar (member Waste Management Committee) were the focal persons of this event. Vice Chancellor GCWUF, in her address, highlighted the importance of water in everyday life. She stressed adopting means of water conservation to ensure availability of it in the future. The Resource persons Prof. Dr. Asma Ashraf (GCUF) and Dr. Abdul Mateen discussed strategies for remediation and conservation of water as it is closely related to food security. They said that by the end of 2025, there will be very little or no clean water in Pakistan as reported by PCRWR (2018). According to the IMF, Pakistan is ranked 3rd among the countries facing severe water shortage. Various chemicals especially heavy metals found in the environment are greatly responsible for water contamination. These chemicals interact in the environment to produce secondary pollutants responsible for climate change and water pollution. SDG-1-climate action takes urgent action to combat climate change and its impact on the environment. They emphasized wisely using and conserving water.
